The course at RiverCrest is one of the most exciting new golf venues built in the Philadelphia area. The course takes the golfer on a skill-challenging journey through naturally beautiful vistas with dramatic views of the horizon. The course is strategic in nature and tests players of all skill levels.
Traditional flair with a contemporary focus on accuracy, the course at RiverCrest is a 6,869-yard, par 72 that is likened to the courses of Scotland and Ireland. The site is a fine mixture of undulating open ground and wooded hills that fit the landscape naturally; the course is routed to flow over the land, utilizing native grasses and plants as buffers between the ?links? style holes built in the open. The areas of maintained turf will be minimal, emphasizing the manicured playing surfaces. Both the hand-mown USGA greens and the cross cut fairways are bentgrass. Bluegrass will be used for the primary rough while a combination of native grasses and fescue are the primary elements featured in the secondary rough and natural areas. The "state of the art" computer-controlled irrigation system maintains the playing surfaces in top condition.
The course has a considerable amount of variety, as no two holes will be the same in shot requirements or esthetic appearance. As an example, each of the par threes are laid out at different lengths and the tee shots are in different directions providing varying wind and sun effects. The par fives range from just over 500 yards to the monstrous 604 yard 16th. Bold shots will be required in order to risk hazards, but will be duly rewarded when accomplished.
Designed with strategy as a criterion, every hole has six tee positions. This provides playability and challenge for all skill levels and presents the opportunity to use every club in the bag. The tees range from 4,541 yards to 6,869 yards. The tees at 4,541 yards are located near the fairway on each hole and are designed for beginners, women, and junior golfers. The fairways are kept at a "US Open" width and the greens meticulously maintained. The intricately shaped greens reflect the historical designs of the past with many ?devilishly? surrounded by classic grass bunkers and sod walled entrapments. Rustic fieldstone walls and dramatic stacked sod wall bunkers seem to meld into the native grasses which adds to the championship golf experience at RiverCrest Golf Club and Preserve.
RiverCrest is challenging, yet playable, holding the golfer's interest round after round, year after year as the finest golf courses always do.
